Lytle Junior High Football

7th Grade:  Mathis 22, Lytle 8

8th Grade:  Lytle 6, Mathis 0

Lytle JH Football began its season last night against the Mathis Pirates.

Our 7th grade began with a 10 play scrimmage before their actual game. Highlights included a couple of nice runs by Hudson Mask, Joseph Araujo and Connor Martin.  The 7th grade game was full of exciting plays.  Lytle fell behind early 14 – 0 but answered back in the 2nd half with a nice TD run by Collin Aldridge.  Devon Caldera bulled his way into the endzone to add the 2 pt. conversion.  Mathis added 1 more score to take the contest 22 – 8.  Highlights included great effort from Preston Edge, our center, Eli Vega – 3 tackles for loss, and Brandon Frias – interception and touchdown saving tackle.

Our 8th grade game started off with a bang as the Pirates marched down the field and scored on the opening drive with a nice 18 yard pass from Alberto “Bubba” Solis to Daniel Aguirre.  The drive would have stalled 2 plays earlier if not for a nice catch from Kasen Boyd from Solis. The rest of the game was a defensive battle.  Our defense is lead by Drew Williams, our middle linebacker.  Drew had an outstanding game leading the team in tackles.  Cort Haltom also had 2 sacks and contributed nicely on both offense and defense. Our defense stopped Mathis 3 times inside the 30 yard line  in the 2nd half.  Capping it off with a forced fumble by Elias Hernandez.  Justin DeLeon sealed the victory with a bruising 18 yard run to gain a much needed 1st down.  Pirates win 6 – 0.
