8th Grade Football

Lytle 6, Poteet 20

The 8th grade Pirate football team traveled to Poteet last night in hopes of capturing a District Championship.  Unfortunately, we came up short.  We are very proud of this football team.  They were fun to coach, eager to learn and full of potential.  The 8th grade team finished the season with a 4 – 4 record, a 3 – 2 record in district play.

The Pirates committed 4 turnovers throughout the game and started from behind as the Aggies took a 12 – 0 lead going into halftime.  Nice runs by Bubba Solis and Cort Haltom and 2 catches by Zak Placido were the highlights of the 1st half 12 play drive that stalled out at the Aggie 15 yard line.

The Aggies tacked on another score mid-way thru the 3rd quarter.  Lytle answered back with a 70 yard touchdown drive set up by nice runs by Bubba Solis, Cort Haltom and a nice catch-n-run by Daniel Aguirre.  Solis scored on a quarterback sneak.

Defensively, the Pirates were led by Drew Williams, Elias Hernandez and Justin DeLeon.  Carlos Flores-Garza, Matthew Eldredge and Zak Placido also had several nice tackles.

The size and strength of the Aggies was just too much to overcome but your 8th grade Pirates never stopped fighting.  With 2:00 left in the game, the Pirate defense mounted a wonderful goal line stance that kept Poteet from putting the game out of reach.

Thanks to all the fans that came out and watched this group play throughout the year.  They have a bright future!
